A-FRAME CABIN

DESIGN GOALS: Our Client’s objective for this project was simple: fulfil their long-standing desire to build their very own A-Framed Cabin nestled away deep in the woods!  This cozy dream cabin would become their sanctuary away from the rest of the world where they could relax, unwind and reconnect with nature and family for years to come!

Our Client was drawn to the iconic A-Frame Cabin design from a sheer LOVE of its many distinct architectural characteristics we associate with it: unique architectural form; exposed interior trusses and beams; high-vaulted ceilings; front and rear wall of windows, and the list goes on!

With their desire for a conscious-cabin lifestyle, our Client requested that their cabin include a natural wood stove, simple and raw materials, and be designed to capitalize on the amount of natural light than can be experienced throughout each space.

As the inherent nature of an A-Frame Cabin greatly limits the usable square footage you can occupy, we needed to thoughtfully consider each space and do what we could to allow for the greatest level of user enjoyment and flexibility of each area for years to come!

Wherever possible, we incorporated unique design details throughout that would add to the overall function and charm of each space!  We continued the stair treads along the wall behind the sofa to provide additional shelving and a place for our Client to display family photos and other possessions.  We also added details such as extending the floor tiles beneath the wood burning stove across the entire width of the cabin, to allow the Client to keep their shoes on while carrying wood from one side of the space to the other and therefore keep the wood flooring safe and protected from water.

As the Client would be doing much of the build themselves, we designed the A-Frame Cabin using standardized product measurements as to eliminate the amount of material wasted during construction and thus saving on both labour and material costs – as well as doing good for the planet!
